Implementing greylisting

Implementing greylisting

In an effort to fight spam, we are looking at implementing greylisting ( explained best at http://projects.puremagic.com/greylisting/ ). As I am not interested in learning how to install and run MySQL, I think I'll be using the milter-greylist db-less implemenatation available at http://hcpnet.free.fr/milter-greylist/.

So, how can I tell if my version of sendmail has milter support compiled in? I'm using sendmail 8.9.3, but am downloading 8.11.1 from the HP Software Depot.

Re: Implementing greylisting

Either sendmail version will work just fine with milter-greylist in my opinion.

If the installation requires a sendmail macro compile you may not know the location.

This script shows you the location of critical files. Don't run it, just look at it.

Re: Implementing greylisting

Well since the milter-greylist author specifies 8.11.x or 8.12.x, I'm going to with his recommendation. This is likely to be difficult enough for me without using versions of sendmail the author hasn't blessed. :)

Re: Implementing greylisting

I agree.

I'm pretty good with the 8.11.1 version of sendmail. Let me know if you have any issues and I will try to help, situation permitting.

Re: Implementing greylisting

Thanks for the offer.

I see 8.13 has been out for a short while, and HP bundled 8.11 back in 11/03. Is HP planning a refresh of bundled sendmail to a more recent version anytime soon?

Also, do you happen to know if BIND 9 is thread-safe on HP-UX 11?

Re: Implementing greylisting

BIND 9 has been solid on HP-UX for several years.

For reasons unexplained sendmail 8.12 is not offered on HP-UX. I signed up for a beta test proram last summer and was never contacted.
