Install SLES9 on megaide in DL320G2

Install SLES9 on megaide in DL320G2

Hi there,
This is my first ATA-RAID, so I might be completely wrong.
I created a RAID1 from both IDE-Disks. When I try to install SLES9 I cannot see the raidset. The megaide module loads, but dmesg shows that it find's nothing. With modinfo megaide I see, that there are no parameters to set.
The kernel sees both disks alone (hda and hdc), but no RAID sda or something.
I also tried booting with noapic noacpi hda=noprobe hdc=noprobe, whith this the kernel sees no disks at all.
I have seen driver-disks for SLES8, EL2.1 and other systems, but not for SLES9.

Now, here's my question: What do I have to do, to make linux see the RAID?

Thanks in advance
Oliver

You need to use a driver disk to add the cciss driver to the install.

Err, I have a megaide ATA-RAID, not SmartArray...

Hi ,Oliver Antwerpen

SATA controller vender should provide driver for linux. You should make a SATA controller driver disk for linux installation.
When you boot from linux install cd ,type "linux dd" for REDHAT linux or press F6 for SUSE linux to loading SATA contorller driver from driver disk.

Re: Install SLES9 on megaide in DL320G2

Ich do not have SATA-RAID.
I have P-ATA-RAID csb6/megaide. HP only provides driver disks for SLES8 RH2.1 and others, not for SLES9.

Any more hints?

You should download megaraid driver from lsi offical website

Re: Install SLES9 on megaide in DL320G2

Hi Oliver,

I've found a solution for your problem (had the same problem here).

- boot from SLES9 SP1 CD
- choose "Manuall Installation" (I've done installation via installation server)
- add "ide=noraid" under boot options
- load kernel module "megaide"
- the raid will be recognized and bind as scsi device "sda" resp. "sg0"
- load kernel module "bcm5700" for network
- continue install, rest will be found via autodetection

Re: Install SLES9 on megaide in DL320G2

Since there is no manual install method with Redhat, Is there any way to use the hardware RAID with RHEL 4.0 or Fedora?

We also have purchased DL320 G2's and don't wish to run RHEL 2.1 or RH 9.0.

It seems that the LIS logic megaraid ide 100 driver has been deprecated for kernel 2.6, and l'd like to see if there's a solution.

Thanks in advance,

Alan
