Installing HP-UX 11i on G series servers

This is not an HP supported configuration but I would like to know if anyone has installed HP-UX 11i on a G70. This is a test system.

Re: Installing HP-UX 11i on G series servers

I have not installed 11i on a G series machine, but I have installed it successfully on an I30. It does not run fast, but it runs. I seem to recall that the installation took 6 hours to run and install all the pieces from both CDs.

Here is my thread from earlier this year on that subject:

Re: Installing HP-UX 11i on G series servers

Hi,

we have a G60 we use for test purposes. It currently runs ;) HPUX 11.00. So I suppose it will also run HPUX 11i, but don't take the word 'run' literally.
BTW we are also going to try to upgrade it to 11i in the coming weeks.

good luck,
Thierry.

Re: Installing HP-UX 11i on G series servers

Hi

i have install hp-ux 11i on j class and k-class
but not on G-class.

i think that the install will work fine but it will run very slow , so if the computer is for testing it will be fine but if the computer is a prod. computer my advise is not to install it .

hope that the install will work fine for you .
good luck .

Hi,

sjips, I've just found out that HPUX 11i is not installable on E, F, G, H, nor I-classes.

HP 11i is a 64bit OS, and will not run on an G, H, or I.

As a side note, if you plan on installing 11i on a K-class server, make sure you have your firmware upgraded to the lastest level.

Re: Installing HP-UX 11i on G series servers

When you install the OS it asks if you want to install 32bit or 64bit.

I have successfully installed HP-UX 11i on an E55 server that I use for my website. Just go to http://edward.alfert.com/ and you will see that in fact HP-UX 11i does work on the E series.

It only has 128mb of RAM and 2GB harddrive! And it is FAST!

Thierry, you are right, I guess I've been to much into the vpars on an nclass to pay attention.

Here is the list of supported machines:

Re: Installing HP-UX 11i on G series servers

Although not supported ( from 11i onwards ) I have installed 11i ( = 11.11 ) on a G40.
For test purposes of course. It runs as good as you can expect from 64MB.
Need at least 2Gb systemdisk, make one large FS. With > 2GB systemdisk you will have to use separate /stand filesystem.
