Installing HP-UXi on SR870BN4 Server

Hi,

I am trying to install HP-UXi v2 (11.23) on a SR870BN4 Server but it won't let me type anything it once i get to the "Language Mapping screen". I am using the usb connected keyboard and it is happy with the keyboard prior to this but once it gets to the "Language Mapping screen" i cannot type anything in. Does anyone have an idea what i could be doing wrong?

What is real model of the server? SR870BN4 doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

Patrick,

i only know it as "Intel®Server Platform SR870BN4" what other name would it go by? I think it a few years old and it is not a new machine so maybe the naming have changed.

Re: Installing HP-UXi on SR870BN4 Server

Is this an Itanium system of some sort?

It should be something like an RX???? wheren '????' a 4 digit number.

There should be a label on the system itself that tells you what it is.

Re: Installing HP-UXi on SR870BN4 Server

If you think/know that hp-ux installs on it maybe there is a USB support issue by the hp-ux install program. Does it have a serial console port? Try using a console terminal or a laptop with serial connection and see if you get further in the installation.

Re: Installing HP-UXi on SR870BN4 Server

Thanks, i cannot get to the machine now until the 5th of Jan 09 so i'll try the serial option then. Should the Serial port automatically be written to or does it need to be configured? Do you also know whether you can use the serial port while the usb keyboard is attached or do you have to disconnected everything other than the serial port?

The product brief for this server does imply that HP-UX is supported, i'll let you know how i get on.

Re: Installing HP-UXi on SR870BN4 Server

See page 7

http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sr870bn4/sb/sr870bn4_thol_2_1.pdf

hp-ux is not listed.

In the past, hp-ux was supported on a few 3rd party platforms, but not on this.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Installing HP-UXi on SR870BN4 Server

hmmm...not a supported platform (see the above).

I *thought* the license to use hpux was tied to the fact that you purchased an hp server? i.e. having the installation media is not sufficient?

If the above is correct there are probably a bunch of legal issues here as well as the hardware headaches.
