Greetings of the Day.
I am planning to install Oracle 10g Database On Service Gaurd Cluster.right now i have configured the cluster on both the nodes and able stop & start on both nodes. But i dont know the procedure of configuring oracle 10g as a failover package in this cluster. Can anybody please guide me the steps to be executed on both the nodes of the cluster.I have given details of my environment below:
Servers : HP rp3440 (PA-RISC)servers (2 Nos)
OS : HP-UX 11iv2
Service gaurd Cluster Vesion : A.11.17.00
an earliest response in this regard is highly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.

Re: Installing Oracle 10g on Service Gaurd Cluster
create a volume group or disk group and filesystem that can be activated by a package.
create database on the filesystem placing all data, config files and everything for the database on the serviceguard filesystem.
umount the filesystem, deactivate the volume group
activate the volume group and mount the filesystem on the other node
and make sure database works on either node
once that works package it up.

Re: Installing Oracle 10g on Service Gaurd Cluster
Are u planning for ORACLE RAC? What is the method you are planning to use storage in oracle.ASM, LVM or raw disks?
Do you want to run Oracle on both the nodes? Active-Active packages?

Re: Installing Oracle 10g on Service Gaurd Cluster
Thanks Emil & Manoj for yopur responses..
Hi Emil,
>>Install oracle executibles on each node<<
should i have a full installation of oracle on both nodes...! please give me step by step procedure..
Hi Manoj,
I am planning to install oracle in only OS Cluster and not in RAC mode. as i already mentioned, i wish to configure oracle as a "Failover" package in SG Cluster ( Active- Passive). and storage method is Shared VG (from SAN).
Regards,
Bobby.

SolutionYou will get the oracle 10gr2 installation document from the following url.
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage
After installing Oracle binary on both the node. From one server create VG and create database on it.
Then stop the databse and unmount the lv and deactivate vg.
Create package on both the nodes which will activate the vg in exclusive mode, mount the LV and start the database.
Make sure that PACKAGE fallback policy is
Manual.

Re: Installing Oracle 10g on Service Gaurd Cluster
Thanks for your Reply...
Now i understood the Overall Process..
>>After installing Oracle binary on both the node.>>
Here i have a small doubt..Do i need to run Oracle Universal Installer on both nodes..Right..? or should i select any particular mode of installation on each node...?

Bobby.

Re: Installing Oracle 10g on Service Gaurd Cluster
But take care : EVERYTHING the database needs, has to be on the volumegroup that switches between the nodes. This includes the init.ora files.
