Installing Oracle 8i Release 2 (8.1.6) on HP-UX 11.0

I have installed the long list of patches that Oracle recommends for HP-UX, and mounted the CD. I try to install by running "runInstaller" from the DVD mount directory, and I get the following message:
--------------------------------------
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ../stage/Components
/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8.0.1/1/DataFiles/Expanded/jre/hpunix/bin/jre. Please wait..
---------------------------------------

and then the following error:

--------------------------------------
SIGFPE 8* arithmetic exception
si_signo [8]: SIGFPE 8* arithmetic exception
si_errno [0]: Error 0
si_code [13]: Sig = 8; code = 13.
---------------------------------------
Has anyone seen anything like this ?

I never see above message during Oracle8i installation.
Did you use Xwindows Terminal to do the installation?

Re: Installing Oracle 8i Release 2 (8.1.6) on HP-UX 11.0

Recently I have installed Oracle 8.1.6 32Bist on HP-UX 11.0 64Bits on three different D/N/V class Servers without any problem.

Before using ./runInstaller, make sure you have set all parameters properly like TMPDIR,LD_LIBRARY_PATH, TMP_DIR,ORALCE_BASE etc on your server.

Also make sure you have more that 200MB free space in your /tmp mount point and swap sapce of 2 to 3 times of your Memory.

It sould work properly.

Hope this will help you.

Re: Installing Oracle 8i Release 2 (8.1.6) on HP-UX 11.0

There are a few things you need to do when installing 8i:

There was a message posted about this earlier but I will try and summarise it

Install the following apps:
-C
-C++
-JVM
-Fava runtime or Developers kit

make sure you adjust the kernel parameters according to the manual and these patches need to be applied ( I cannot remeber who posted the old message but I saved it for later reference)

Re: Installing Oracle 8i Release 2 (8.1.6) on HP-UX 11.0

I had this problem using reflections X on my laptop. I had to export DISPLAY of my workstation/laptop NOT the server I was installing on.

In addition I found this on the metalink.
