Hi Raju,

If the patches are for 11.23, you can install it in PA too regardless of architecture.

Re: Installing Oracle on rp 3410 with hp ux 11.23

Shalom Raju,

The first step is to go to metalink.oracle.com or technet.oracle.com and get the list of patches required for 11.23. If 11.23 is not listed for 10g its not supported, stop at that point.

You should have the patch bundle for 11.23, the quarterly update, of which I recommend September 2005. These are available from the patch database at http://itrc.hp.com

You will need to make kernel changes for 10g. You will need to install the patches on the patch list for oracle. Note that oracle often lists obsolete patches for their systems and you'll need to check for new patches.

The itrc patch database lets you build a bundle and will automatically include all dependencies.

11.23 has a LITS patch, which means Line In The Sand

This patch can only be installed once. If you install it twice bad things will happen.

After you create your OS patch bundle you will need the following parametrs in your install line to prevent LITS troubles.

swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x reisntall=false -s \*

This will boot your system and prevent reinstallation of old patches.

swverify \* after patch install to make sure all patches are configured properly. Watch for corruption.

Re: Installing Oracle on rp 3410 with hp ux 11.23

Shalom again Raju,

I forgot to note you will need the Ansi C add in for HP-UX to work with oracle.

http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B6237AA

This is a product you have to pay for and install after entering a codeword. To work with Oracle you need it, and you have no way around it unless oracle has added support for the gnu compilers as an alternative.

There are a lot of old threads concerning oracle 10g installation on ITRC and I suggest you consult them when you run into specific issues.

After patching and installting oracle, try these scripts:

http://www.hpux.ws/system.perf.sh

They will let you track performance data. Oracle often causes performance issues on HP-UX.
