Installing Red Hat 5 on an rx6600
I am looking into installing Red Hat 5 on a rx6600 Itanium server, but how do you view the installation display? I have also seen other things on HP's website about compatibility issues. Has anyone even done this?

Re: Installing Red Hat 5 on an rx6600
Shalom,
rx6600 has a SVGA output port, USB for keyboard and mouse.
You need to do the installation at the system or via enhanced iLo if you have licensed this and configured it.
Also the media for Itanium IA64 is the only media that will work.

Re: Installing Red Hat 5 on an rx6600
You *can* start the installation of RedHat 5 with serial console (including the ILO MP console) too.
See RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 Installation Guide, Chapter 4.3.3: Additional Boot Options.
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-5-manual/Installation_Guide-en-US/s2-x86-starting-bootopts.html
(Misleading URL: although it says "x86", it has information for Itanium too.)
Using a serial console will obviously force the installer to run in text mode. I have not tested the text mode installer of RedHat 5 yet, but with RHEL 4 I think the text mode installer was more limited in some respects: e.g. some disk partitioning options (LVM or software mirroring?) were available only in the GUI mode installer - or by using a Kickstart installation file.
