Installing Ubuntu on DL380 G6: Does not recognize disk array: Can not partition.
Hello All,
I am trying to install Ubuntu on DL380 G6.
I do not see any array utility in the BIOS.
When I get to patitioning the disk, it does not seem to recognize the compaq disk array(see attached).
Has any one seen this problem?
Any help regarding how to resolve it is appreciated.
Thanks!
Nat.

Re: Installing Ubuntu on DL380 G6: Does not recognize disk array: Can not partition.
Shalom,
I have seen this problem on almost every Linux distribution.
G6 has new disk technology and drivers required and if the release is not new enough, it will not recognize the disk due to the lack of a driver.
You can see if HP provides a driver, but on most distributions of Linux they merely tell you to use a supported release of the OS. Your graphic will not open due to security software. Care to share with us WHAT version of Ubuntu we are talking about?

Re: Installing Ubuntu on DL380 G6: Does not recognize disk array: Can not partition.
I have tried the following releases with the same result:
9.10 server
9.10 alternate install
and 10.04 server and alternate install.
The error in the attachment shows inability to partition the disk with the following error message:
"
Unable to determine geometry of file//device /dev/cciss/c0d0.
You should not use Parted unless you REALLY know what you're doing!
WARNING!

Re: Installing Ubuntu on DL380 G6: Does not recognize disk array: Can not partition.
In Proliant servers, the BIOS is accessed using the F9 key at boot time.
The SmartArray RAID configuration tool is not in the BIOS, but is accessible by pressing the F8 key while the SmartArray is initializing (you'll see the SmartArray model information and perhaps one or more spinning "/" signs).
If you press the F8 at any other time in the boot sequence, it might have no effect or you might access some other option ROMs: iLO configuration for example.
