We're finishing the build of an rx7640 with 8 cores and 8 ivm licenses. On the system, we have a host along with 4 guests. I'm looking for some input as to how HP structures support contracts for these systems. My contract admin from HP has asked for the system details so she can contact the sales team for advice. I want to make sure what others out here have matches what information I'll get back from HP. Thanks in advance for any information you may have.
Regards,
Eric

Re: Integrity Virtual Machines (IVM) contracts with HP
Software and hardware contracts are by physical machine.
They could care less how many virtual machines you use.
I had to ask on that a while back.

SolutionI forget, some products like Service Guard and Online JFS is licensed by the CPU. Software support is also by the CPU.
Your IVM will not be done by number of virtual hosts, it will done by physical CPU.
Dual Core CPU's count as one physical CPU for licensing and support purposes.
I think this answer actually gets to the core of your question.

Re: Integrity Virtual Machines (IVM) contracts with HP
I guess my biggest question is how the sw license pricing works on the guests. If I have one guest with onlinejfs and another without, are they going to want a blanket 8 core charge for each regardless.
Guess I'll have to wait for a reply. Unfortunately, replies to any contract questions seem to take weeks and not days these days.
Thanks,
Eric

Re: Integrity Virtual Machines (IVM) contracts with HP
However when IVM is licensed you are getting a FOE with an IVM license. When you go to 11iv3 you can then change your entitlement with no uplift charge to VOE (or is it VSOE).
You will only call in for support on the SAID for the host that IVM was purchased for.
I hope this helps.
