Is ProLiant Support Pack for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (i686) is must?

Friends,
We have installed RHEL AS 4 Update 5 successfully in DL380 G5 server.
My question is..... is the "ProLiant Support Pack for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (i686) Version 8" is necessary?
RHEL AS 4 Upadate 5 will be having drivers is it?
Please advice me.

In PSP pack you have the latest drivers for youh HP hardware, but its not a must for installation.

thanks....is RHEL AS 4 Update 5 having the drivers for dl380 g5 if not, is it installing the default drivers?

No.

Does it contain a lot of useful things that can make your life easier? Yes. I recommend it highly.

Hi,

In my experience, HP Support will not give you assistance should you need to call them, if you don't have the ProLiant Support Pack installed, so yes it should be installed.

Although, there's usually no technical reason to require it - as the majority of the required drivers will already be in the kernel.

Without the PSP you do not get the benefit of Pre-Failure alerting on CPU, memory and hard drives.
