Is There Way To Get Rid Of vx_inactive_threads?

Hi, 10.20 systems and I get a lot of the above named output with a ps -ef. Are they necessary and if not is there a way to get rid of them? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Check your /etc/fstab for references to vxfs, if it's not there, you can probably safely remove the vxbase driver which will get rid of the vx_inactive_threads in the ps output.

Hope this helps,

Hi Rob, hi Peter !

Peter, you are right, but it's necessary to remove the following drivers from the kernel:

dmapi
vxbase
vxadv

Hello Rob,

AFAIK the answer is: no, not really - for I do assume you
will not work without the VxFS file system...
You could upgrade to 11.x, where all the processes are
really implemented as threads...

Re: Is There Way To Get Rid Of vx_inactive_threads?

Nope, and I would not recommend you try. These processes are the "cheezy" threads for vxfs file systems in HP-UX 10.20. If you have volume groups, which is the default filesystem for 10.20, then removing the drivers from the kernel will leave your system inoperable.

NOTE: If you are concerned about how many of these there are, or are running out of processes, then raise "nproc" param in the kernel. These processes though, should never show up as high CPU usage...so the quantity should have little effect on the system.
