Is this for an installation media, or for an emergency-style DVD?

If for the first, there are already DVD ISO images for most distributions available to be burnt. It can be done manually however, and there are instructions about if you search for them.

If for the latter, I'd suggest not trying to make your own from scratch, but start off with a Knoppix live-cd/dvd (http://www.knoppix.com/).

Try this - it is for RedHat only. This isn't my latest version so check carefully. In particular teh diskiso may have a typo & (IMPORTANT) it needs to be edited. The "1" needs to be "1,2,3,4" (for each disk). You may want to creat this first.
