Hi Ali:

There is no limit to the number of device special file fields in /etc/fstab.

Re: Limit to mounts on /etc/fstab

Hi:

20 will be no problem. You typically hit the 'maxvgs' Max Volume group limit but you can increase this as well by genning a new kernel. If you look at the underlying mount(2) system call you will find that there is no error associated with the number of mounted filesystems. I've easily run over 100 filesystems on a 10.20 box; I don't claim that it is a good idea but you can do it.

We have 299 entries in /etc/fstab on one of our file servers.

Re: Limit to mounts on /etc/fstab

Hi Ali,

As far as i know there is no limitation,
but also to answer Clay's reply, all the entries do not have to be local filesystems.
But yes he is right in the sense that, if we are creating a lot of local filesystems then we run out of VGs first, but then again you can create upto 255 LV's in each VG.

No limitation at all from my experience.
