Linux ES 3.0 on a HP DL380 , scsi problem

I have installed a dual channel ultra320 scsi card. The server see's it. I have connect to Channel B, an HP StorageWorks DAT 72. The system does not see the tape drive. I did "lsmod" and it appears all of the scsi mods are there. I then did "cat /proc/scsi/scsi" and the only thing that appears is the cdrom. I also tried "mt -f /dev/st0 status". The system returned no device found.
HELP....What did I need to do to get the system to see the tape drive.

Re: Linux ES 3.0 on a HP DL380 , scsi problem

Hi,
in log there is no info about SCSI controler.
I think that you don't have correct modules for them.
Can you tell me what SCSI controler have you installed ?

Re: Linux ES 3.0 on a HP DL380 , scsi problem

Try

modprobe aic79xx

and see in /var/log/messages if /dev/st0 will be assigned to a scsi device.
Something like that :

Attached scsi tape st0 at scsi2, channel 0, id 6, lun 0

If it happens you will have to :

insert in /etc/modules.conf

alias scsi_hostadapterN aic79xx

where N is the next sequential scsi_hostadapter in your modules.conf

Then, the next time you reference /dev/st0 the right module (aic79xx) will be dinamicaly loaded.

Hope it helps.
