Linux Installation on HP9000 - L1000 - Easy points
Hi,
has anyone already set up Linux on a HP9000 - L1000 ?
What are the major gotcha's during installation.
Any experience if this platform can be clustered ?
Anyone successfully tried mirroring capabillities.
I need to evaluate if L1000-Linux is production capable, as HP-UX is too expensive for License Reasons. I have the oportunity to buy a couple of used L1000 Hardware for cheap, but I do not like to stick to HP-UX SW Support.
Of course I already surfed http://parisc-linux.org/index.html
I need real-life experience, no whitepapers.
Thanks for any feedback.
Volker

Re: Linux Installation on HP9000 - L1000 - Easy points
although i don't have direct expierence with linux on a l1000, we have once installed linux on a hp pa-risc workstation.
the installation is simple enough, but it seems linux is not yet as stable as the x86 version.
for example, on our system, the kernel was spending an awful lot of time in kernel space even for simple programs/commands where it would normally spend most of its time in user space.
so the performance was not that good as you might suspect.
anyway, this could perhaps have been caused by the old workstation, i'm planning on testing linux at work again but on a recent A-class model to see if it makes any difference.

Thanks for feedback Dirk,
which release did you install ?
I saw the current Debian Build is dated January this year.
May be they improved it a bit ?!?!?
