Linux on HP nw8240 notebook
Hi,
I have just installed RHEL4 WS on a nw8240 notebook but cannot get the graphics driver to identify the graphics hardware correctly. I have down loaded the latest ATI drivers, but they install as a Mobility Radeon X700 Generic not a FireGL V5000 which the laptop has.
Can anyone help.
Ronnie

Re: Linux on HP nw8240 notebook
Shalom Ronnie,
By straying out of the Certified world, you have made things a little harder for yourself.
There are good hacks on the drivers, that sometimes work, but you are best advised to see the manufacturers website and see if they have a driver.
Don't be surprised if you have to compile it.

Re: Linux on HP nw8240 notebook
Steven,
Surely the HP nw8240 is certified. The reason I purchased the laptop was that HP told me it was certified with REDHAT linux. The quickspecs also states:
RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 (certified on models configured with Intel PRO/Wireless only; open source drivers)

Re: Linux on HP nw8240 notebook
You may have to manually set the resolution, screen size, colors, and refresh rate manually -- Linux is notorious for that...
