Live Video Capture on HP-UX 10.2 + 11.0
Does anyone know of any software available to do ?Live Video Capture? on 10.2 or 11.0 workstations? We have custom developed code that runs in multiple windows and we desire to capture the interactive usage of same to .avi or similar format. The ultimate goal is to transfer the files to a PC and convert to some format that Media Player can read then burn CDROMs to send to world wide sales engineers.
We desperately need to stop shipping HP-UX systems, as rugged as they are after a few flights they start to break down.

Re: Live Video Capture on HP-UX 10.2 + 11.0
Hi Richard,
I worked on video team sometime. I have not heard anything about HP hardware that capture video. There is lots of hardware that can capture video on Windows OS. You might want to call HP and they will point you to the right direction.

Re: Live Video Capture on HP-UX 10.2 + 11.0
MDL Corporation (www.mdlcorp.com) has its
scsiCam video capture product, which works on
HP-UX and just about all other Unix systems,
and Windows. In fact, it is the only video
capture device available that works across all
those platforms, and the only one for HP-UX.
However, it seems to me that you do not want a
hardware video capture product; rather, you
want the ability to capture the X window stuff
from several different windows, and be able to
replay it on another box.
Is this right?
Otherwise, you are going to have to go through
scan converters to shrink the monitor signal
down to NTSC, and perform video capture on the
resulting stream. This, in all honesty, will
probably not be quite as sharp or as good as
you would want.
However, if this is the way you want to go,
then you would need to use a PC to capture this
video stream. As far as I know, there are no
AVI generating programs on HP-UX, regardless of
video data sources.

Re: Live Video Capture on HP-UX 10.2 + 11.0
Hi Richard,
Till now i have not heard of any such hardware or package that is available on unix for video capture. I was not even able to get a plugin on unix for my browser to view streaming video.
You can keep on trying and probably you may come across something. Don't forget to let us know if you do come across something through some means other than this forum.
Thanks
