Looking for Oracle 7.3.4 media on HPUX 10.20

We have a customer that is currently running Oracle 7.3.4 on HPUX 9.0 on a K580. (I know it is old but that was the customer's choice.)

They just purchased another K580 (more RAM, hard drive, etc.) running HPUX 10.20. They want to migrate the Oracle 7.3.4 to the new K580.

Is there media for the Oracle 7.3.4 for the HPUX 10.20 available?

Hi Brian,

Call Oracle support and ask if they can provide you with the software CD. I doubt if the release version will be available in the listing for software downloads through OTN.

Oracle7 Server 7.3.4 is a full release. Istructions for installing and configuring this Oracle software release are included in the Oracle7 Server for HP 9000 Series 700/800 Installation Guide Part No. A58738-01). You should also consult the Oracle7 Reference Addendum for HP 9000 Series 700/800 (Part No. A52359-1), and the Oracle7 Administrator's Reference for UNIX Part No. A42808-3).

There is an Installer Alert. The Advanced Networking Option must be installed in a separate Installer session, after all other licensed products are installed. Installation of this release will not be successful if all products are installed in the same session.

Re: Looking for Oracle 7.3.4 media on HPUX 10.20

Brian,
OTN does not have 7.3.4 for HP10.20 available, so you either have to request from Oracle or find another installation media.

I have never tried this, but would it be possible to make a backup of your installation on the 9.0 machine and restore it to the 10.20 platform? In theory code compiled under 9 SHOULD run under 10.20.
You would probably hav to carry out a lot of post-install config changes, so I would only try this as a last resort.

You would be better off explaining the support situation to the customer.

Re: Looking for Oracle 7.3.4 media on HPUX 10.20

hi brian,

if you don't manage to get the cd, you can try to copy the Oracle binaries to new server and try to relink it again there...

note that this is not recommended for a production environment.

kind regards

Re: Looking for Oracle 7.3.4 media on HPUX 10.20

Thanks for the replies.

I had a feeling that the HPUX 10.20 would cause an issue.

What if we went to HPUX 11? Would there be media available for Oracle 7.3.4 for the HPUX 11.0?

Brian,

i doubt you will 734 media for hpux 11.

i have successfully copied 734 installation from 10.20 and relinked on 11.11 rp4440.

your best bet would be to copy from hpux 9 and relink on ur destination server.

Re: Looking for Oracle 7.3.4 media on HPUX 10.20

Shalom Brian,

You are proposing to install unsupported database software on an unsupported OS.

By switching to a supported OS (11.00) you are solving half the problem.

What is really needed is a migration plan to a supported version of Oracle. It is possible, though not fun to run Oracle 9i on a K class box with enough memory.

You will not get the Oracle media from an official source. Oracle will tell you to upgrade.

If you must use Oracle 7.3.4 its not going to be easier or harder based on the OS, so long as at one time the database was supported on your chosen OS version.

I will add my name to the list of doubters that Oracle will provide you media. You'd have to be a big customer, like the US Navy (Example, I know nothing specific) to get Oracle to support something that obsolete.
