Re: MIRROR WITH DIFERENT STORAGE

Shalom,

Yes you can do this. I've used this for data migration and other purposes.

The problem is that the i/o will only be as fast as the slowest of the disk systems.

Most of these arrays do have business copy and other features that will permit you to copy/mirror your data.

My general advice is to do the software mirror for migration purposes but not leave it that way for long term mirroring.

Re: MIRROR WITH DIFERENT STORAGE

It really depends on the Hardware and switches how they interconnected. It would be good if you keep them both on Fiber Channel side.

Re: MIRROR WITH DIFERENT STORAGE

I have done similar in a number of cases , either to migrate data on same array or to another array.

In your case, going from local SCSI to SAN, the only local impact would be read ios from your local SCSI.

If your local SCSI is not overly busy none would notice. If busy you may wish to wait for a quieter time before executing.

Re: MIRROR WITH DIFERENT STORAGE

Yes you can do that and do so you can without I/O interruption or downtime.

You can use LVM Mirrors or VxVM Mirrors.

Regarding performance, I think there should not be any issue as the HDS will be a whole lot faster than the DS2300...

Hope this helps...
