There is a whole lot more to this than can be answered here!

The big question is -- WHAT, exactly, are you migrating?

At its simplest, though it is still a big project, you would do:

1) Acquire servers and install your favorite variety of Linux

2) Install your applications on the Linux server

3) Migrate your applications data from HP-UX to Linux

Anything more detailed is almost impossible to cover here with the information, or lack thereof, given.

4) Learn how to admin a Linux system.  (This may not be an issue if you are already doing it.)

Re: MIgrating from HP-UX to Linux

From a OS perspective what should be migrated ?

Few that I can think of are IP address,Hostname, users .... Are there anything else that need to be migrated from a OS perspective..

From a Application perspective... (A home grown application).. How can it be migrated ?

Host System.. HPUX Integrity System

Target... RHEL

Any Pre and Post Migration measures would be much helpful

What languages are used?

Note that HP-UX is big-endian and Linux is wrong endian.

Shalom,

Your mileage may vary.

1) Identify the major/important apps you are running.

2) Contact the application vendors and see what their support for Linux is.

3) Obtain Migration recommendations from application vendors.

4) Identify users that need to be migrated to Linux.

5) Study workload and make capacity recommendations.

6) Work with Storage on a migration plan.

7) Plan for a lot of hard work.
