Motherboard upgrade help

Hello, I would like to upgrade a Compaq Deskpro EP 450 mhz machine with a newer motherboard. The pc was built around 1998-99. I'd like to get something that best fits the current motherboard's size and hole configuration. I'd like something intel (P4)based and around 2ghz in speed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Motherboard upgrade help

It's an ATX mobo so you should have a wide choice. Any board should work as long as its an ATX form factor and doesn't draw more than the Power Supply can handle. The power supply is rated at a maximum of 200 watts and 145 watts continuous. Start at http://www.motherboards.org/
Lots of reviews and ratings on the various motherboards as well as prices for bundles (including the CPU and sometimes even XP).

Re: Motherboard upgrade help

Hi guys:

The power supply will have to be replaced if the new motherboard is a Pentium 4 motherboard. See: http://www.intel.com/home/customize/build/components/power_supply.htm

Re: Motherboard upgrade help

Makes sense. 200 watts seems quite low
now for any pc. Just another expense, what else can there be? : )
