Moving PROGRESS DB

Hello,

Maybe someone have experience with moving PROGRESS DB and application (r-code) from E35 HP-UX10.20 to L1000 (L2000) HP-UX11.00 (11i).
What the problems could arise?

Thank you

Re: Moving PROGRESS DB

Hi Pocius,

That depends entirely on which version of Progress you'd like to migrate?

Re: Moving PROGRESS DB

Hi Pocius,

8.2B will be ok with HP-UX 11, but not on 11i.

See these links:

http://esupport.progress.com/esupport/consumer/solutionarea.asp?id=18765
first Progress version suppored for 11.00 is 8.2x.

... and

http://esupport.progress.com/esupport/consumer/solutionarea.asp?id=P4894
first Progress version support for 11.11 (11.i) is 8.3E.

Regarding your r-code....whenever you switch platforms you must recompile. Hopefully you have access to the source code. If not, then I'm guessing you have purchased your software package and if that's the case, then you should contact your application vendor for assistance there.

Just out of curiosity, what are your plans to migrate the database from 10.20 to 11? Have you given any thoughts of upgrading to a more recent Progress version? Of course, if 11.i is your desire then you must upgrade your Progress.

Re: Moving PROGRESS DB

Hello Brad,

We moved PROGRESS databases and r-code to new (11.00) server and it working without recompiling.

Further we need to test character client application behavior.

The reason was old server (10.20) without support and poor performance when databases growing.

The application is home made so we have all access to p-code.

Thank you.

P.S.

I wonder how PROGRESS will coexist with
Oracle8i (8.1.7.0) on the same box?

Re: Moving PROGRESS DB

Hi Pocius,

That's good news regarding your r-code and not having to recompile.

Oracle and Progress can coexist just fine on the same machine. We currently run Oracle8i (8.1.7.0.0) and Progress 9.1c on our HP-UX 11.00 host with no problems.

But, a word of caution -- See this link:
