NTP Config

Hi,
I have a doubt on configuring NTP. I have a system runs HP-UX 11.0 with Oracle 8i.I need to configure ntp from an external source.
My concern is whether when I am configuring ntp will it make any impact on the running oracle or OS OR do I need to configure after shutting down the oracle.

A better implementation would be (in my opinion) setup an NTP server that syncs to external source. It can be a dedicated server or any server in your network that is "less" busy but critical enough so that it's realiable. With that running you can then setup NTP clients and this system that runs Oracle can be that client that synchronizes its clock with your local NTP server. You can use the broadcast method for your clients (if your local NTP server is in the same subnet). As far as setting it up, it can be done online, no shutdown of Oracle is necessary and if you search the forum you would find many responses to "how to setup NTP". I do not know or have experience any significant impact on system performance by implementing NTP.

There is no performance problems in using NTP, nor problems with using it on systems that have databases either.

Configure NTP is not interrupt database operation.
also time diffrent will be gradually adjust.

yes definitely.
It depends whether you are moving the time forward or backwards.

Moving the time ahead should not create more problems,But moving the time backwards should be something to be precautious.

you should think of your scheduled jobs both OS wise as well as the scheduled jobs Oracle wise.
YOu should plan to restart the crond as you set your time backwards.
