Network card probs

I purchased 6 Netgear FA310TX ethernet adapters. They work in my IBM PC's
(running NT4.0 and one of my HP Pavilion PCs running Win98). I cannot get the
adapter to work in an HP Pavilion running NT4.0.

Suggestions?

I'm trying to get it to work with an HP Pavilion 6530 (433 celeron w/ 128mb
ram) on NT4.0 w/SP6a. The same card will work with the other computers, but my
3 HP Pavilions uniformly reject the FA310TX. I have loaded & reloaded the
software driver. I have no other cards in the machine (it has 3 PCI slots
available). I have tried it in every slot. WHen I try to conenct to my lan or
the internet, my computer fails to see either.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Re: Network card probs

Hi Kenneth,

That particular NetGear card is on the NT hardware compatibility list so it
must work with NT 4.0. Where did you get the driver you are using for NT (from
Netgear or off of the NT CD)? If you haven't already, go out to NetGears
website and make sure you download and use the latest driver.

How are you trying to install the card in NT? To verify, you should:

- Control Panel/Network
- Make sure there are no other adapters, protocols, etc loaded.
- Click on the Adapters tab and do an Add
- When the Select Network Adapter dialog box opens, click Have Disk and supply
it with the newly downloaded driver, follow the prompts, and then reboot.

Do you get any errors at any time? Do you see the adapter listed in Control
Panel/Network/Adapters? Are there any errors in the Event Viewer?

You might also want to check with NetGear and see if they have a utility that
sets the IRQ, etc. NT will not automatically detect settings as Win9x does so
the card may have one setting and NT may set it to another. This is worth
checking also.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: Network card probs

It sounds like some sort of a conflict in the configuration. I will try and run
Windows NT diagnostics on a PC that works fine and record the Nic resources
(IRQ, memory settings, addresses etc.).

then I'll do the same on the HP boxes BEFORE and AFTER you install the Nic, and
compare.

Event log can also shad some light.

Re: Network card probs

I HAVE A 6530 PAVILION AND WHEN I INSTALLED WINDOWS NT 4.0 THE COMPUTER WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE MY ADAPTER CARDS OR MODEM CARDS. i PARTITONED THE DRIVE AND WHEN I PUT BACK WINDOWS 98 THE CARDS WERE IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED. hOW CAN I GET WINDOWS 4.0 TO WORK.
