I have been doing the RHEL 4u6 OS installation into four brand new DL380 G6 box. I met a problem "No Drives Found" "An error has occurred - no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem".
What am I doing are:
1. Booted server from HP smartstart 8.2 CD, tried to install all the drives.
2. There are five hard drives (146GB each) into each servers. I created a RAID-1 logical drive using two hard dirves for OS, and created a RAID-5 logical drive using the rest three for App and DB.
3. Booted system via RHEL AS 4u6 installtion DVD. Because the new DL380 G6 no DVD-ROM, so I used a USB DVD combo as a external media.
4. RHEL installer running, but when I tried to partition then error appeared and installation was interrupted.
How to fix it? Any answers will be very appreciate!

Re: No Drives Found, install RHEL AS 4u6 into brand new DL380 G6 box
This is a known issue with HREL4 with some HP servers.
The reason is initial install kernel donot have the raid controller driver so it can not see the disk drives.
HP has released a driver floppy disk for the purpose which is downloadable.
using this floppy you can load the raid controller drivers to the initial kernel that is used for the installation.
Check the following link
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3884083&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3884082&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2025#78220
RHEL 5 have fixed this issue and also i think 4.7 also. but i found some bugs related to xen on 4.7.
any way hope this info would be usefull
Good Luck...!

Re: No Drives Found, install RHEL AS 4u6 into brand new DL380 G6 box
RHEL 4.8 is recently released.
If your applications will support it I recommend that if you go for that as your preferred 4.x release.
