Although the Fedora Core 3 fresh installation detected the on-board sound system on my new HP Compaq dc7100 desktop (and the sound test works on both the headphone speakers and the mono in-box speaker), I get no warning bell or system beep sound.
For example, typing Ctrl-G in a terminal does nothing, nor does the usual warning beep sound when command-line autocompletion with the tab key fails.
I have tried unmuting and unfading all the components in the Volume Control panel, and now I don't know what else to try.
Any hints on turning on the bell character sound?
Johann

Probably sound alarms off in you desktop environment?
Did you try to play some sound files using media player?

Just load the pcspkr.ko kernel module!
