Not enough memory to open an Outlook Contact List

Hi all,

I can't open a Contact List in MS Outlook.
I tried to open it with Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 with all the last patches installed, without any success. The error message is the following:

"Can't open this item. Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again."

This Contact list contains 100 members. I read in a solution document that the limit is 70-100 members.
How can I view the members of that list so as to break it into more contact lists?

Thanks.
Kostas

Re: Not enough memory to open an Outlook Contact List

Hi Kostas,

You have been misinformed. I currently have 417 contacts in my Contacts list and have no such problems.

How big is your Outlook file? Can you open other folders in Outlook? Do you empty your Deleted Items folder regularly? If so do you periodically compact your Outlook file?

When it says "Out of memory or system resources", have you checked what your memory utilisation is in Task Manager? What Operating System are you using? Is it completely up-to-date (Windows Update)?

Hmmm..... You might have a damaged PST file.

Copy your current PST file to a safe directory (folder), then run scanpst to repair the original file. Scanpst can be found at:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\SCANPST.EXE"

Re: Not enough memory to open an Outlook Contact List

How about rebooting your PC? Try that first.

Smells like you might have a spyware attack eating up your RAM Memory.
Do you run any tools?

What is your Operating System software....
How much RAM do your have?

Download Belarc ( www.belarc.com ) to find the amount of memory installed.

Try this in Outlook :
Empty your "Deleted Items" folder.
Empty your "Send Items" folder.

If you have your Office CD, you might try to run Detect and Repair in Outlook, it might ask for the CD to repair files.

Jim

Re: Not enough memory to open an Outlook Contact List

Hi all,

The mailbox is running on an Exchange Server.

Microsoft says that 100 members in a contact list are too many.

So I exported the list to a pst file, deleted some members and then imported it again.

It works now!
