Well, a newer version of Fedora is likely to have better hardware support. Better support means its more likely to get an ip address from the Wireless Access point.
Try changing the network type from managed to adhoc in the wireless tool, that sometimes helps if you must stick with FC4.

Not good news for any of us with FC4 or older versions running...
