ORA-03113:end-of-file on communication channel (Oracle9iAS)

Dear All
Thanks a lot for your answers for my previous question about the error "ORA-03113:end-of-file on communication channel" during my attempt to start Infrastucture data base of Oracle9iAS. Some of you recommend me to increase the value of shmmax kernel parameter to the maximum and accordingly the shared_pool_size parameter in my $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initdw.ora.
The RAM of my server is 1GB. So I set the value of shmmax to 268435456. And Universal Installer sets the value of shared_pool_size during creation of Infrastructure DB in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initdw.ora to 201326592.
So what are the values of shmmax and shared_pool_size should I set to avoid the ORA-03113?

Hi Kerry,

ORA-03113:end-of-file on communication channel
is general message that can cause by any problem that cause instance down.

Better get close to problem by check oracle alert log.

Hi Kerry,
I had the same error and the instance would not mount. I fixed this by fixing the /etc/hosts file. Make sure the hostname and IP is in the systems /etc/hosts file. This might sound wierd but did work.
