Omnibook XE-3 ge heat issue

Hello, I recently obtained an omnibook that belonged to my friend. It ran well for a while then i noticed it shutting down unexpectedly. I thought it was a heat problem, so i took it apart and put some heatsink over the processor, since the old heatsink dried up. It's still happening, but not as often. It does this whenever it gets hot.

Is it a fan problem? because the fan only goes on for a couple seconds when the computer boots up, and then doesn't do anything after that
