OpenVMS v8.3 Crash after while doing a SFTP from or back AIX v7.1

Didi anybody experienced runnning into the experience in the subject or hear anything releated?

We have been performing FTP to multiple systems in the past from our system which is using

the TCP/IP stack MultiNet v5.4 from Process Software. We never experienced getting into this

problem but we beleive there may be something causing a conflic while performing an SFTP.

Ther eason is that there si too much of a coincidence that we opened an SFTP from the AIX v7.1

into the Alpha ES47 runnning v8.3 with multinet: listed files fine, then proceeded with a GET

and after a while the session got locck. Proceeded to check and OpenVMS was crashed.

Again, after few days we perfrom same thing but in the other direction: open a  SFTP2 at the Alpha

and connected to AIX v7.1 and listed some files fine then proceeded to do a PUT and after a while

the session lock and proceeded to check OpenVMS was crashed again.

Seems like this is too much of a coincidence of having a crash twice while performing an FTP

into or back from a AIX v7.1

What may be going on?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

The obvious response here is, what did the system dump tell you?    (If you don't know how to analyze a system dump, find someone who does.  Full disclosure, our firm and many others represented on this forum can do it for you)

FWIW, we have a site that is running the latest Multinet 5.4 SSH patches on Alpha 8.3.  We have had many, many problems with SSH/SCP/SFTP including hangs, incomplete trasnfers, looping transfers where the target is written over and over until the target disk gets full, corrupted directory path strings, and many others.  I've truly lost count of the escalations over the past 6 months.   But, we have not seen a system crasher, yet.

I will be very interested in the analysis of your system dumps.

If you can locate the system dump file, do an $**bleep**/CRASH dump_file, and then post the output of SDA> CLUE CRASH.

That might be enough to give us an idea if it's Multinet or not.

I was also reminded that we had a different site that had two distinct crashes due to Multinet (but those were on IA64).

Re: OpenVMS v8.3 Crash after while doing a SFTP from or back AIX v7.1

Edmundo,

by default, OpenVMS automatically analyzes the system dump file and provides a CLUE footprint summary file during startup. Please look for

$ DIR CLUE$COLLECT:CLUE$*.LIS

There should be CLUE$node_ddmmyy_hhmm.LIS files from the most recent crashes.

There should also exist a CLUE$HISTORY.DAT file (the crash history file = 1 line of crash footprint information for each crash).

First look in the CLUE history file, whether there have been similar crashes before.

If you can, please attach the CLUE file in your next reply in this forum. Or at least post the output of the first couple of lines.

Volker.

I echo the other replies.  There is nothing to provide us with a clue (sorry about the pun) here as to what is happening.  Either post the output of a ANALY/CRASH or perhaps contact one of us directly for assistance.

Full disclosure:  I provide crash dump analysis services as do others here.  Feel free to contact any of us directly for services.
