Re: Oracle 8.1.7.4 SE (32 bit) on HP-UX 11.11 (64 bit)
I do not know if there is a 64-bit version of 8.1.7.4SE. I have yet to find anything on Oracles web site.

Re: Oracle 8.1.7.4 SE (32 bit) on HP-UX 11.11 (64 bit)
It works. There are problems converting a repository database if you use it.
Here are some prep steps.
1)Install the Latest HP patch bundle you are comfortable with.
2) Read this doc
http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/infolibrary/patches.html
It lists every java patch you should have prior to any oracle installation, especially oracle applicatoins. These should be installed prior to installing any oracle product.
3) Install java 1.2 or 1.3, depending on your needs. Either will work with oracle.
4)Run Installprep.sh (attached) as your oracle user. This will help you with the kernel. Exceed minimun recommendations if you have any other databases running especially.
5) Visit metalink.oracle.com and read this docuemnt. This specified additional patches you need in prior to your oracle installation.
http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=43507.1
If you don't have metalink access, I'll be happy to email you the text.
Guess what? It specified MORE patches that you need prior to installation.
6) Install oracle, after backing up anything else you care about.
When running 64 bit Oracle has been fabulous and reliable. I wish I hadn't had to develop this guide the hard way though.

Re: Oracle 8.1.7.4 SE (32 bit) on HP-UX 11.11 (64 bit)
take care if using more than one 32 bit application on an HPUX 64 bit operating system that each application has his own shared memory region.
You can make this with the setmemwindow command.
Best regards ...

Re: Oracle 8.1.7.4 SE (32 bit) on HP-UX 11.11 (64 bit)
From Metalink:
General Notes For Oracle Server - Standard Edition On HP-UX PA-RISC:
O/S Information:
Standard Edition is only supported on machine types that have a maxmum of 4 CPU slots in the cabinet enclosure.
This platform ships the same code for HP 9000 Series HP-UX and Stratus Continuum/HP-UX.
Certify - Certification Matrix: Oracle Server - Standard Edition on HP-UX PA-RISC
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Operating System: HP-UX PA-RISC Version 11i
Oracle Server - Standard Edition Version 8.1.7 (8i)
Status: Certified
Product Version Note:
Terminal Oracle8i release
To obtain Patch Sets from MetaLink, click the "Patches" button to the left.
Certification Note:
Existing patch sets:
8.1.7.1.0 (without JDBC),
8.1.7.1.0b (includes JAVAVM, Context and JDBC),
8.1.7.2.0,
8.1.7.2.1, **replaces 8.1.7.2.0**
8.1.7.3.0
8.1.7.4.0
32-bit/64-bit Information:
- All Server and O/S versions without 64-bit notations indicate 32-bit versions.
- The 32-bit O/S runs only programs that were compiled on a 32-bit O/S. This is called Binary Compatible.
- A 32-bit application will work on both a 32-bit and 64-bit O/S, whereas a 64-bit application will only work on a 64-bit O/S.
- Note, however, that relinking must occur on the O/S version that the application was compiled, as this affects patch sets.
