Oracle 8.1.7 upgrade to Oracle 8.1.7.4

Hi Folks,

Could you please advice me on the following problem.

I have installed Oracle 8.1.7.0 (64 bits) on hp unix 11.00 (64 bits). I have downloaded the following upgarde patched for Oracle.
1. Oracle 8.1.7.1
2. Oracle 8.1.7.2
3. Oracle 8.1.7.3
4. Oracle 8.1.7.4

So, I need to install all versions one by one or higher version(Oracle 8.1.7.4) only.
My database is live. Could you please tell me some pre cautions! If any body have installtion guide for it please send it to me.

Also Could you please tell me HP Patches list for Oracle 8.1.7.4.

Only higher version Oracle 8.1.7.4.

You only have to apply 8.1.7.4 patchset:
Patchset::2376472
8.1.7.4 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATA SERVER

8.1.7.4 is enough for the upgrade.

To my knowledge no hpUX patches are required.

Make sure that the Oracle services are down during the upgrade.

Check the readme file at the download page.
That has all hte information for the upgrade.

Make sure you have a valid backup before the upgrade

Hi Ghulam,

You only need to apply 8.1.7.4 patchset.


1. Download the patchset 8.1.7.4 or log a TAR with oracle and they will send you the patchset.

2. Backup your database and ORACLE_HOME under 8.1.7.0.

3. The patchset will have the document to run the script.

4. Apply the patchset as the document says.

Thanks a lot for prompt reply.

I have two nodes Active/Passive.
Can I install first on Passive Node, deffinatly Database is runing on Active node. So, once I finish on Passive node then I need to move database on passive node to make it active node.

Is it ok?

That was what I had done to upgrade our oracle instances runing on A-class servers.
- But you have to ensure both 2 nodes are runing in same patchset level (OS).
- You have to take care the data difference if the Active node is providing services during upgrading Passive node.

Hi Ghulam,

thats sounds ok, provided the oracle installations are independent and on the passive all oracle processes are down, otherwise you get problems with the update.
