Oracle 817 on HP-UX 11.0 64 installation steps

Hi,

I have a two server cluster (L2000 each) running Oracle Applications (OA) 11.0.3 on Oracle 8.0.5 Server on top on HP-UX 11.0 64 bits.
Clustering means I have two packages (app & ora) and each of them can be run on only one node.

I intend to migrate the OA 11.0.3. on Oracle 8.1.7 server, so I have a set of qestions:
1. The installation manual of 8.1.7 states that a series of OS patches must be applied in advance. The latest quality patch sets is good enough for this purpose ?
2. After the patch application do I have to re-link the old 8.0.5 ?

Installing patches from latest suport Plus media is sufficient for 8.1.7

After patch installation no need to relink the 8.0.5

Application of the latest patch is sufficient. No need to re-link.

Hi Dan,

The official Oracle response is that you should relink after applying any patches to your system, especially if you are patching library's.

We had an issue with ServiceGaurd and SAP/Oracle that was caused by not relinking after patches. It is now part of our procedures to relink after patches as recommended by Oracle.

Here is what is to be done :


There is a HP patch (PHSS_22478) that have to be applied before the oracle upgrade. Also, the HP Unix system configration must be verified and make any necessary changes based on the Oracle 8.1.7 requirement.

Dan,

I have been installing Oracle 8.1.7 to Hpux 11i. We have about 10 servers. I was unable to make this work on our 64 bit machines until, I also upgraded Oracle to 8.1.7.4

I also had to increase our shared POOL. But that might have been becuase of our application need to be upgrade also.
