Oracle 9i Installation on HP 9000 D Class

Hi to anyone who may find this interesting,

Recently, I have successfully installed Oracle 9i on HP 9000 D Class Server. But when I tried to login into sqlplus under oracle user,
i got the following message.

# sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
sqlplus : Execute permission denied

Am wondering whether this is simply a problem of installing oracle 9i (64 bit) into 32 bit D Class server (with HP-UX 11i 32 bit installed), or is it the setting that I might left out during oracle 9i installation.

I tried to find the solutions in the previous messages, but too bad that I can't get any information regarding to my problem (intallation of oracle 9i into d class server).

Your feedback is really appreciated, thanks in advance.

32bit code will run on a 64bit OS and Machine, BUT NOT the other way around.

Hi

Harry said it; 64 bit code can't run on 32 bit machine.

Excerpt from Oracle Metalink:
---
General Notes For Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition On HP-UX:
32-bit/64-bit Information:
HP-UX 11.0 & 11i can be either 32-bit or 64-bit.
If the Server product is 64-bit then 64-bit hardware (processors) is required.

You might be able to install the software, but I doubt that the linking part of the install went OK. The installer will report Succesfull anyway...

Hi,

Really thanks for the reply.
Now, I think I shall install
oracle 8 instead of oracle 9i !

You didn't say what version of D class machine you have.

If it is a D350, you can upgrade it to a D390. This will allow you to run HP-UX 11.x.

It was a pretty clean upgrade, but there are a couple of gotcha's to watch out for. Especially if it is a mission critical server.

Email me directly and I will give you the contact information.

We did 4 of them successfully. The cost/performance increase was significant.
