Oracle Application Server & JAVA Servlette Container

Guys,
Any one workin on this product ?. I am getting lots of CLOSE_WAIT sockets on my OAS server which have been originally from my coprporate web server.
netstat -a |grep 8080 ouputs lots of CLOSE_WAIT connections. Due to which my oracle application listener reaches it's limit. I need help on the following things,

01. Can i release these sockets forcefully ?.
02. Why this happens ?, I understand that the remote host has closed this connection but why machine does not clear the connection ?.
