Oracle RAC 9 and raw devices

How I can use raw devices over 2 GB with Oracle RAC 9 in HP-UX 11.23?

Re: Oracle RAC 9 and raw devices

Hi,

You can use it if you install MC/serviceguard + the extension
T1859BA A.11.16.00 Serviceguard Extension for RAC

Here you find the doc

Re: Oracle RAC 9 and raw devices

I'd like to think you'll probably need CVM (Cluster Volume Manager from Veritas) - which I think has been integrated into Serviceguard and SGeRAC..

My clients who've used RAW storage for Oracle use VxVM to manage storage and it's typical to see RAW volumes in excess of 2GB...

Re: Oracle RAC 9 and raw devices

Hi,

There is no limit on 2 GB size for raw devices in HP-UX 11i and Oracle 9.
You just define you lvols and configure them in Oracle.

Re: Oracle RAC 9 and raw devices

Hi,

On HP-UX, a 'raw device' takes one of two forms:-

a. raw disk without using the LVM (/dev/rdsk/cxxxxxx)
b. raw logical volumes created by the LVM (/dev/vgXX/rlvolXX)

The LVM is HP's Logical Volume Manager.

There is no limit as 2 GB size. Remember that the raw logical volume should be created at least one Oracle block larger than the desired Oracle datafile size.
