Oracle RMAN backup using Secure Backup to Ultrium 3-SCSI drive

Hi,
I have one Ultrium 3-SCSI Tape drive connected to my HP-UX server

HP-UX blrnd2 B.11.11 U 9000/800 3559414519 unlimited-user license

Can i take rman backup to tape using Oracle secure backup or can i take rman backup directly to LTO3?
Regards

Re: Oracle RMAN backup using Secure Backup to Ultrium 3-SCSI drive

Shalom,

Either of those options will work.

I know rman can write backups directly to Ultrium 3 tapes.

That might not be the most efficient way to go about it for large databases. It takes time to write to tape and during this time your database is in backup mode, or better yet down, to get a good cold copy.

Many sysadmins prefer to take backups to disk and then use other utilities to take the backup to tape. This can be faster than direct to tape so long as you don't try and gzip the data.
