Re: Oracle for Hpux 11.0 can't be installed on Hpux 11i?

There should be a seperate PART.NO and CD for the HPUX11i version.

It is not recommended to use the different CD version.

I am not sure whether it will work, not tried, might give problems during the compilation stage.

THanks

Re: Oracle for Hpux 11.0 can't be installed on Hpux 11i?

I have 11i and Oracle8i Enterpirse Edition installation CDs. They don't specifically state for 11 or 11i, just HP 9000 Series HPUX. The part # if A87071-01.

I have installed oracle from these CD for both 11.00 and 11.11 servers on our site without a problem.

Hope this helps.

I'm not 100% sure if you can, but I believe the installer does a check when you launch it.
What you definitely need is the correct bit version: if HP_UX is 64 bit you need oracle 64 bit as well !

Re: Oracle for Hpux 11.0 can't be installed on Hpux 11i?

Not too true regarding the 64-bit versions.
We're running 8.0.6-32bit and 8.0.6-64bit on 11.11.
Both versions were installed from the same Oracle CD.
We successfully ran the 32-bit version on 11.0 without any problems, and only did the upgrade to 64bit after we had completed the 11i OS upgrades.

Re: Oracle for Hpux 11.0 can't be installed on Hpux 11i?

Answer: No.

You must have media from Oracle spefific to the OS. 11i is a major upgrade.

Check the certification matrix at metalink.oracle.com

Further, you may have a database migration issue that might knock your socks off, even if the database you are coming from is the same version.

From 8.1.7.0 32 bit 11.00 to 8.1.7.4 64 bit 11.11(11i) is a big hair migration.

You can't use the .0 release of oracle because of some java bugs.

Additional notes.

go to http://www.hp.com/go/java and pick a nice version of java for your server v 1.2 or 1.3 as 1.4 is not certified.

Download and install each and every patch for your chosen java version. If you don't you will end up unhappy.

Regards and good luck,

Re: Oracle for Hpux 11.0 can't be installed on Hpux 11i?

With deference to these other guys, I can only say that I installed the 11.0 version of 8.0.6 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) on 11.11 before the Oracle version for 11.11 was available and it worked flawlessly. I also had no problems with the 8.1.7 11.0 versions running on 11.11.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Oracle for Hpux 11.0 can't be installed on Hpux 11i?

I think It should work fine. The reason I say that is we had oracle 817 64_bit on HPUX 11.0 and then we upgraded to HPUX 11i. We just had to recompile oracle (make) again and it worked fine. So It should work fine in your case as well...

Re: Oracle for Hpux 11.0 can't be installed on Hpux 11i?

I'm with the above two guys. There's no reason that I've ever read why you can't move databases freely between HPUX 11.0 and HPUX11i. We do it all the time and have no problems. I've had Oracle DBA's on site, and none of them have ever balked at the process, even though they well knew the issues. Just make sure that you've kept up with OS and database patching on both machines that you're moving to and from. When it was mentioned about different OS's etc. Yes, that was true in the move from 10.20 to 11.X, however, as far as Oracle is concerned 11.0 and 11i are the same release. I've not seen a patch or install that even makes mention of the differences, unless it is to say that an OS patch is required or recommended - naturally, the OS patches for 11.0 differ than those for 11i.
