Ought RHEL 5.5 install straight onto BL460c G6 blade and be easily managed then from the OA

Hi,

I'm in the process of downloading RedHat Linux 5.5 for use with a BL460c G6 blade in a c7000 chassis. Currently there are other bL460 G5 blades (running RHEL 5.1 and our application on top of this), an OA (firmware 3.11) and Cisco 3020 CAT switch. The HP Firmware DVD 9.10B tells me that the G6 blade is all up to date. SmartStart 8.50 confirms that there is a RAID1 system in the HP Smart Array P410i Controller in this G6 blade, spread over the two physical harddisks giving a logical drive of 68.3GB.

I plan to install the RHEL 5.5. onto the G6 blade via a DVD.

Presumably I'll have to install many RHEL updates straightaway but to me I suspect that may be optional as I'm more interested in getting our application going.

For the RHEL to initially install correctly onto the G6 blade with everything also looking fine in the OA do you know if I will I require anything else (like an update, etc) ?

Shalom,

You should make sure you have the right media. RH media is different for IA64 versus Wintel blades.

After that, register your systems with RHN and you can yum update to your hearts content.
