Over temperature warning on K servers

Hi everybody,

This is my first post to this forum.
We had recently an aircon failure in a server room of one of our customers.
On the syslog files of the K boxes there some OVERTEMP warnings. One of them
rebooted eventually.

Is is possible to configure a threshold above which the systems would halt?

Thanks in advance!

Btw is it possible to browse posted messages of this forum by topic/keyword ?

Kind Regards,

Rui.

Re: Over temperature warning on K servers

There is a previous post in this forum regarding the K series system specs which include temperature for the system.

Yes - you can search through the forums for specific subjects, example, to find posts on ntp, do the search with the keyword of 'ntp'

Re: Over temperature warning on K servers

Go to search, type the key word, check Forum search and get the previous posts about the key word.
For temperature in a K box, see:

Re: Over temperature warning on K servers

No, its not possible to set a value at which a K series would halt due to overtemp - they are hardset in the system.

Thanks for the information Rick...
...But I do not find any search button (sorry for my
ignorance, but I am a rookie in this forum...)

In the very left side, in the same column with FORUM, in the first row is SEARCH. (just under HP logo).

Re: Over temperature warning on K servers

I had a system giving me temp warning once and looked into it a bit. On a K box I believe (this was a little while ago) that as the temp goes up there are three or four thresh holds. The first one or two generate warnings, then the system will try to gracefully shutdown, and the fourth cuts power to the box. I don't know that these are configurable though.
This took place awhile ago, but that's what I remember :).
Hope this helps,
Steve

Re: Over temperature warning on K servers

The normal operating temperature for K-Class is 41 to 91 degrees Faherheit(+5 to +40 degrees Celsius).
Over temperature first warning will begin at:
95 degrees Farenheit (+35 degress Celsius)
Over temperature second warning (Emergency Warning) begins at:
104 degrees Farenheit (+40 degrees Celsius)

Over temperature hardware shutdown will occur at:
109 degrees Farenheit (+43 degrees Celsius)

I hope this information helps.

Re: Over temperature warning on K servers

Thank you for the quick help.
I still have a question:
When I remotely logged to the system, I noticed the the system was up again.
In the OLDsyslog.log I detected the OVERTEMP warnings, but the system was up
again. It seems the no POWWER OFF occurred, only a reboot.

Furthermore does this OVERTEMP feature exist also on workstations (C, B) and on
D servers?

Many thanks,

Rui.

Re: Over temperature warning on K servers

The over temperature trigger is activated by a sensor in the power monitor. I know it exists on servers to protect the servers from crashes of this nature.
