Password showing as clear text on system console

We have an old dumb terminal that we use for a system console on a RP5430 running 11.11. It has suddenly started showing in clear text the password as you type it in. What would cause this? Thanks

Shalom,

Improper settings on a serial console have been known to do this. In general, if we are talking a serial console, it should be replaced if the event occurs to often.

Reset to factory settings ctrl-d at startup, though this varies depending on whether you are using a supported crt

A problem report with some useful information
in it would make mine. On the bright side,
we did get an ID on the computer and its OS,
which is better than the average around here.

Either the terminal is providing a local
echo, and resetting that might depend on
knowing more about it than "old dumb
terminal", or else the server is echoing the
password characters, which it should not do
(if it's configured properly). (And I can't
think of any configuration which would
provide a good reason for the usual login
program to echo the password characters.)

1. Do you have differet terminal to isolate the issue?

As everyone suggested , try to reset , check the emulation, if not working change the same ( age over :) )

It is a HP 700/96 dumb term model C1064W Serial #UST9220248 made in the USA. I used the keyboard (a C3340-60201 HP keyboard...made in Mexico) and hit the F2 key (also most likely made in Mexico) to toggle off the "Modify All". This stopped the password from being displayed on the screen (in English...which I think originated in an Indian tech support training facility).
