I was trying to know the best lead procejure to apply patches on a oracle databases and on a 10g RAC.

Hi again,

In case, you are investigating into installation of Database level patches, the following applies.

For a new installation:
Download the latest available patches bundles from Metalink and install them just after you have completed the software installation.


For an existing installation:
Install patches ONLY if you are facing a bug or it is required as per your policies. In this case, again you will have to download the latest availble patches from metalink and install accordingly. Note that you should always perform a full backup before intervening for the patch installation. In many cases, this may require a minor downtime.

For the RAC, you will have to patch each node individually. Detailed instructions are normally available in the installation guide coming with each software.
