Presario CQ60 - Hardware Error Booting Ubuntu 64bit 8.04.1

I am having issues trying to get the laptop mentioned to boot into the livecd in order to install. The boot process hangs and returns the following error to me:

[ 113.978568]
[ 113.978569] HARDWARE ERROR
[ 113.978570] CPU 0: Machine check exception: 4 Bank 4: b600000000070f0f
[ 113.978825] TSC 35134dc47c ADDR 900000c2004001
[ 113.978076] This is not a software problem!
[ 113.979042] Run through mcelog --ascii to decode and contact your hardware vendor
[ 113.979130] Kernel panic - not syncing: Machine check

Any insight as to what is happening? This is a brand new laptop and I would hate to have to switch to another manufacturer if I can not get Ubuntu to load....

Hey

the same problem, using HP DL380 G5 with QUADCORE Xeon E5335 .

root@dale:/usr/src# cat /var/log/mcelog | tail -4
HARDWARE ERROR. This is *NOT* a software problem!
Please contact your hardware vendor
CPU 1 BANK 4 TSC f22069d23140

Any clues ?

Server is restarting under slighly heavier load. For example one service like mysql with 10 queries per second.

Re: Presario CQ60 - Hardware Error Booting Ubuntu 64bit 8.04.1

What I actually had to do to get a version of Ubuntu to load was to jump to the Jaunty Alpha at that time. It loaded without any hitches!!!

So I have been running Juanty 9.04 instead of Hardy Heron 8.04... I know it is not a LTS release but it runs!!! And quite impressively well!
