Printing on a remote Xerox DC 332ST

Hi guys,

I've configured a remote printer on a HP-UX 10.20 system... I used SAM to configure it and had no problem to do so.... I can ping the printer without any problems... The printer just refuse to print my requests...

When I do an lpstat printername I got this error:
(root)hpd-001:/# lpstat mktg_xe_bw

printer queue for mktg_xe_bw
*** | Unknown Identification
| problematic object: printer-name

no entries

What could be the problem??

Thanks
Jonathan

Re: Printing on a remote Xerox DC 332ST

Hi Jonathan,

How did you define the device to the system? By device I mean the hostname OR IP of the ptr. IF you used a name, then that name MUST be resolvable by the system - either in your /etc/hosts file or via DNS.
I generally use the IP as it requires NO resolution.

The next question is how did you define the queue name for this device. Generally the ptr network setup should let you define the queue name, but some just use something by default - like DEFAULT.

I believe your problem is the latter - the queue name.

Rgds,
Jeff

So you need to determine just *what* that queue name is

Re: Printing on a remote Xerox DC 332ST

Hi Jonathan

The correct queue name should be LP (in lowercase).

Re: Printing on a remote Xerox DC 332ST

Hi Jonathan

When you set the remote printer name in SAM you need to make it 'lp'.
