Priting with HP PCL 5e embedded codes a text document.

I am trying to place PCL5e codes into a text document so that I can control the following aspects of printing: a)top margin, b)left margin d)number of lines on a page and finally d)spacing between rows. I tried several different PCLs. Unfortunately, rather than it "commanding" the printer, the codes simply print along with the balance of the text.

I tried &l10, &l10, ESC&l10, \ESC&l10 and a few other combinations. I am testing on a HP4L. Can some one tell me what I am doing wrong!

Re: Priting with HP PCL 5e embedded codes a text document.

Anil,
I think you will send the document directly to printer port via dos without windows. Windows spooler doesn't accept any control code; if you will send a document into printer spooler you must format as EMF.
However, if you will send directly to printer port remember as follow:
a)becuase dos emulation, you can't send to a USB printer;
b)you need enable msdos print in windows printer property
c)some HP printers don't yet support dos print
After this brief introdution you can print under follows rules:
1)PCL4 is substandard of PCL5
2)PCL5 require soft reset before any print; soft reser is E (escape followed uppercase E)
