Problem of Install RedHat Enterprise AS3.0 on HP DL360 G4

DL360 G4, 2*SCSI HD U320, 2*3.0 CPU

First, I try to install using RHEL AS3.0 Disc 1, then it comes up to the hardware listing and "no hard drives have been found....". I have downloaded the drivers from HP, but they don't work.

Could u give me a guide to install RHEL AS3.0 on DL360 G4 Server ?

Hello
How exactly are you installing the drivers (and witch) and what is the error message you get?

Boot the box of the disk configuration cd that came with the server.

Set up the disk storage.

Then boot again off the Red Hat CD and the install will find disk to install onto.

No disk prepartion=no installation on HP servers.

Re: Problem of Install RedHat Enterprise AS3.0 on HP DL360 G4

I am attempting to install Red Hat Enterprise AS 3.0 on HP DL360 G4 with dual cpu, 2/GB memory, 2 36/GB disks and Smart Array Plus Control 6i (integrated on system board).
After selecting the option to partition the filesystem automatically -- I get the following error message < *** An error has occurred no devices were found on which to create new filesystem please check your hardware for the cause of this problem ***> and that is the end of my installation process.

Ps. I have tried with and without the hardware RAID 1 configuration and getting the same error message.

Also, on HP DL360 G4 and trying to install RH AS3. I've updated the smartarray 6i firmware, the server's BIOS firmware, and created the Linux driver diskette using the drivers off the HP site, but the Redhat installation still says there are no valid drives when you get to the partitioning part of the install. If I try to use the "linux dd" option at the boot: prompt in order to specify a driver disk, it scans the disk and then says that no valid drivers were found. I've checked the disk and it is not corrupt.

I have no idea what to do next. Anyone had a similar problem and found a solution?

SEP:

I haven't found the "Configuration CD" you mentioned. In the DL360 package, there are "Documentation CD" and "Smart Start7.4" only.

Hi,

As SEP said, you need to build some logical disk drives. Use Smart Start Cd 7.4 should be ok, then go to the Array Configuration Utility - there you should see the Smart 6i and build an array - if it isnt done already.

When you boot the server and the Smart Array starts verification does it come up saying anything about logical drives? If it says 0 logical drives then you need to setup - its probably good to get a feel eitherway of smart start etc.

As you only have 2x36GB its not much room to experiment, presume you want 2x36GB as RAID1 (mirrored set) this can be be broken down in to partitions or this can be done by RHEL - only that you get 14 partitions under Linux per physical disk - the Smart Array can physically partition into any size you require - within in limits of course :)

Robert,

Thank you for your info.
Actually,i have set the logical drive already, however, there is the same error message.

Do you think that it is the problem of installation disc ??

If I'm reading correctly, you have RHEL 3 Initial release rather than RHEL 3 Update 1. If this is the case, there were some bugs that did not allow the OS to install.

Get a RHEL 3 Update 1 disk to boot.

HP did not support the initial release of RHEL 3.

In fact, I strongly recommend you use the latest RHEL3 update - update 6.
