Problem with 11.31 upgrade

Re: Problem with 11.31 upgrade

Hi,

Do you have 10-20% free space in /usr, /var and /opt. If you don't, your upgrade will fail!! Hope it helps.

Re: Problem with 11.31 upgrade

Thank you for asking. Yes, there is a minimum of 20% free in all of the listed filesystems. /opt even has 70% free because when I extended it I made it too big.

>there is a minimum of 20% free

Instead of a %, is there an absolute number of free Gb required?

Re: Problem with 11.31 upgrade

When I run update-ux, there is also logging information in /var/dm/sw/swinstall.log, which tends to be a bit more detailed.
Maybe it contains some explanation for the error ?

Re: Problem with 11.31 upgrade

And when I should have learned to type without errors, the path would have been /var/adm/sw/swinstall.log

Re: Problem with 11.31 upgrade

Have you found anything from /var/opt/swm/swm.log ?

Re: Problem with 11.31 upgrade

I didn't find anything in swinstall.log that would lead me to identify the problem. The portion of /var/opt/swm/swm.log that shows where the error occurs is at the top of this thread.

I had to restore my system from back-up to make sure that it was clean since our maintenance window was closed. Unfortunately, I failed to save the log files from the installation before restoring it. ::bad, sysadmin, bad!::

Re: Problem with 11.31 upgrade

This is probably way out on left field
....but....

Your 11.23 - what's the date used for the O/S install?

Your 11.31 - what's the date on the DVD's being used for that install?

My point - If your 11.23 was built using say September 2009 DVD's, and you are trying to build 11.31 using June 2009 DVD's - It won't work.
You need to use DVD's newer than the Sep2009 used for 11.23.

My other thought is...could just be a patch problem. So do you have current Software Distributor Cumulative patches on your 11.23 boxes PHCO_41201.

Just a couple thoughts,
Rita
