Problem with a Proliant G4 Server

During power-on, I get this message:
SCSI ERROR (0:3:0) STATUS=02h (CHECK CONDITION)
Key=8h (BLANK CHECK); FRU=00h
ASC/ASCQ=14h/03h
CDB=08 00 00 02 00 00 – “READ(6)”

The device that have the scsi id 3 is the Surestore Dat Drive 72 Gb. On that server is Linux RedHat 7.3 operating system installed and that don't have another error or disfunction.

Can some people learn me about that error message ?
Greetings.

Re: Problem with a Proliant G4 Server

What SCSI controller is it that it's connected to? An on-board Adaptec, or something else?

Does the tape drive still work?

Re: Problem with a Proliant G4 Server

Dat unit is attached on the on-board Scsi controller (I don't remember if that is an Adaptec or something else).

Dat unit work correctly: every day that make a backup and compare operations.

(I'm sorry for my bad english)

Re: Problem with a Proliant G4 Server

Your english is fine ;)

This error reminds me of an fault in the adaptech controller driver of which was updated a number of times between 8 and 9 (so having 7.3, it would be an even older version).

The two things I'd try are these.

- Verify the SCSI chain termination, making sure it's all connected properly with active terminators.

- Get an updated kernel, either a vanilla 2.4 series, or hunt down a 'legacy' package dump (I believe there are a few for RH7.3) and use one from there.

Re: Problem with a Proliant G4 Server

Thank you.

I will trying to replace the scsi flat (that have an integrated scsi terminator) and to update the kernel module.
